TIPS

Prepare your abstract with your usual word processor, taking into account the following indications:

TITLE

Words of the title are used for abstract indexing. Therefore, you should avoid "meaningless" words (ex: evidence for, new insights, effects of, etc) and non-standard abbreviations (ex: GABA is standard but LH for "lateral hypertrophy" is not). Use lower case, except for standard abbreviations.
The title must be in one paragraph and end with a period.
Maximum length: 250 characters and signs, including spaces.

ABSTRACT LENGTH

Abstract length is limited to 2000 characters. All characters and signs, including spaces must be counted. Most word processors have an option permitting such counting (statistics), but some do not take spaces into account (e.g. Microsoft Word 6).
Note: If your abstract is too long, you will be instructed to reduce the number of characters before you can continue the abstract submission process.

GREEK CHARACTERS AND SYMBOLS

Do not use Greek characters, spell them out (alpha, gamma, etc.).
Use of unusual fonts (such as Symbol) can result in weird characters in your final text.

TABLES AND FIGURES

Tables and figures are not allowed.

INITIAL SUBMISSION

ACCESS

You can access the submission form only AFTER having registered. Only the first author must submit an abstract.

If you want to submit an abstract right after your registration, a button is provided at the bottom of your registration confirmation to access directly the abstract submission form.

If you want to submit your abstract at a later time, connect to the FENS Forum website, click on the Registration - Abstract submission page, then click on the Abstract tab. You will have to type your registration number and confidential code that were provided on the registration confirmation.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

You are required to go through the 4 steps of the abstract submission form. The form will be saved by clicking on "Submit" at the last step.

Step 1

Institutions
Fill in the list of institutions to which the authors belong.

Step 2

Authors
The abstract submission form allows as many as 20 co-authors. For each author, type in the name, the initials of the first (F) and middle (M) names, and the indexes of the laboratories separated by a comma.
Ex: Smith JH  1,3,2

Step 3

Themes & topics
Select a theme, subtheme and topic corresponding to your abstract. You may have 2 choices, but one choice is mandatory.

Additional symposia
In addition to the symposia established by the Programme Committee, a few thematic symposia will be organised from abstracts submitted by participants. These abstracts will be selected to form coherent symposia whose themes will not overlap with those of pre-established symposia. Preferably, these voluntary contributions should be proposed by younger scientists. If you think that a symposium could be organized around the subject of your abstract, tick the appropriate checkbox and suggest a topic for the symposium. Decision about your proposal will be announced by mid-April 2006.

Step 4

Title
The title must be in one paragraph and end with a period. Maximum length: 250 characters and signs, including spaces.
Please note that Greek characters and symbols are not allowed.

Abstract body
The text body can have several paragraphs. Abstract length is limited to 2000 characters and signs, including spaces (see tips). Please note that Greek characters as well as tables and figures are not allowed.

Once you have checked that all the information is correct, click on "Submit".

CONFIRMATION

WAIT for the confirmation. DO NOT FORGET TO PRINT IT.
Your registration number and confidential code are mentioned on the confirmation; you will need these codes for all correspondence with the Registration secretariat, or to modify your abstract and/or registration.
Read your submission and make sure that there are no weird characters and signs in your text.
To modify your abstract, click on "Edit" at the bottom of the confirmation page. If not, quit.

DO NOT send a copy of the confirmation to the Forum secretariat.

You should receive a confirmation of your abstract submission by email within 24h-48h. If you do not receive this email, please check your email address (see Registration editing).

You can check and modify your abstract form at any time until the early registration deadline (January 31, 2006): See Abstract editing.

Note: your abstract will be definitively accepted on receipt of your registration fee. At the time of publishing the abstract and programme books, abstracts for which we have received no registration payment will be removed.
